Courts Technology Group had previously had an unsuccessful attempt to automate their applications using QTP. With the vast number of regression and system tests in place and with Microsoft Visual Studio suite already being used throughout the development team, the
company endeavoured to challenge this again. The ICMS and other Courts Technology Group applications were very mature and well established within the organisation. Various different UI technologies were used; WinForms, WPF and Web. A range of different controls were used. Finding one tool which could automate all successfully and easily was a challenge.

K. J. Ross & Associates was asked to develop and deliver a proof of concept test automation solution around Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2010 offerings.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Testing Tools provided the ability to automate all of the application technologies used throughout Courts Technology Group. KJ Ross supplied a senior automation technical specialist who was able to analyse, review, build and
deliver, in the short time frame, a Coded UI Framework solution that encompassed the challenges Courts Technology Group were experiencing.

As well as developing and delivering a test automation solution KJ Ross also configured and installed the Test Management tool Microsoft Test Manager. This tool gave Courts Technology Group the ability to run and track their manual and automated tests. Another benefit of using this tool was the ability to produce detailed and elaborate tracking and reporting of testing results, both manual and automated, from one source.

KJ Ross provided training to key individuals from each team within the project. This training consisted of walkthroughs around the use of Test Manager and maintaining and building the Coded UI Framework solution.
